Zambia Daily Mail : Gospel Diva Kanji Releases Zanga

KANJI (Mwizukanji Namwawa), who shot to fame with the songs Mr Big Star and Chi Daddy, about a decade ago, but has since gone gospel, today releases her album Zanga with a concert launch planned for Mulungushi Conference Centre in Lusaka on March 7.

The concert will be supported by Magg 44, Abel Chungu Musuka, Nathan Nyirenda, Pompi and Ephraim.
Kanji is making a return to music 10 years after making her debut on Sling Beats, which then housed the likes of General Ozzy, K’Millian, Mampi, Ty2, Namanje and Hamoba.
“People are absolutely happy with the decision I made. I actually never saw myself coming back in the industry when I stopped singing, but at the end of 2012, I just felt this calling. I met the right people who made me to realise that it was about time I came back. I actually knew Magg44 from way back and when we got into the studio, it was really awesome and I am looking forward to launching my album. I did the writing myself, it was a process that involved a lot of work,” she said in a recent interview with the Weekend Mail.
Kanji announced her comeback last year with a message on her facebook page.
“Kanji has been away, focusing on her career as well as her family and other business ventures. But despite the whirlwind that is in her life, she has been called back to do that which she is most passionate about. That is, music.

“This time her offering is a gospel album – the gifting of a  song which was given to her solely for this purpose.” She revealed that she had toyed around with the idea of participating in public ministry through music but had to take time out to really reflect and arrive at what she called a place of peace. “Gospel music is not just about singing. Ultimately it’s about singing songs that will minister and must therefore be divinely inspired.”
Kanji is a legal practitioner who believes in the value and worth of education and believes that when one is given an opportunity to learn and upgrade themselves, they must seize it with both hands.

“Education is power; it is the spring board from which one can be propelled to achieve great things. It is the foundation, the root from which excellence germinates and is built,” she says.
